On April 18, 2018 Professor Andrey Solov'yov visited the Department of Medical Physics in Radiation Oncology of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) where he gave a talk at the Medical Physics seminar. The talk was devoted to an overview of the Multi-Scale Approach (MSA) to the molecular-level quantitative assessment of radiation damage in biological targets consequent to their irradiation by ions and its implications to the ion-beam cancer therapy.
The current status of the development of the MSA and its further perspectives were addressed during the talk and in the discussion afterwards with colleagues from the Department of Medical Physics in Radiation Oncology.
The cooperation between the MBN Research Center and the DKFZ is linked to a research project of Dr. Alexey Verkhovtsev who is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the DKFZ and a member of the MBN Research Center team. This project aims at analysis of DNA double-strand break repair mechanisms and repair kinetics for different cell lines and irradiation conditions.
